Mission statement
The Champlain College Publishing Initiative has been created in order to engage as many of our students as possible in the field of publishing, whether as writers, editors, designers, artists, marketers, publicists, accountants, or web designers, and to give them a supervised educational experience that is creative, demanding, and applicable to the world they meet when they graduate.
Our mission is to play an active part in the great experiment that is contemporary publishing.
What we do
We are not a publishing company. We’re a publishing services enterprise. What that means is that we work with a variety of authors and organizations to help them develop their ideas to the point where they are ready for the printer—or publication in an electronic or online form. The author is the publisher, and retains the copyright. What we do is to give suggestions on editing (structure, organization, spelling, grammar, etc.) and layout and design (cover art, front and back design). We also provide support after publication, in the form of promotion and marketing.
Where we are
We’re based at Champlain College in Burlington, Vermont. Champlain was recently recognized by U.S. News and World Report as one of America’s “Top Up-and-Coming Schools.” The Champlain College Publishing Initiative is just one sign of the innovation and professional-focused education that are characteristic of the college.
